Sustained torrential rain has caused widespread flight delays at multiple airports in southern China, state media reported on ‌Tuesday, as ⁠forecasters ⁠said the rain belt was expected to linger over the region before shifting northward on Thursday.

As of Tuesday ⁠afternoon, more ‌than 155 flights departing Shenzhen Bao'an International ⁠Airport had been delayed, with its on-time departure rate falling to about 46%, state broadcaster CCTV reported.


At Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, more than ‌90 outbound flights were delayed, while the on-time departure rate stood at ⁠about 79%.

Heavy rainfall has battered southern China since the weekend, triggering floods, disrupting transport and forcing thousands to relocate.
