Strict penalties ahead of Hajj season
In a statement, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Interior said overstaying any type of entry visa would attract legal action. The ministry urged visitors to follow all rules during the Hajj period, highlighting the need to maintain safety and order during the pilgrimage.Authorities also clarified that visit visas, regardless of category, do not allow holders to perform Hajj. Any violation of these rules would lead to penalties, as part of broader efforts to regulate the large influx of pilgrims during the season.
Call for public cooperation
The ministry called on residents and citizens to report violations to authorities. It said people can dial 911 in Mecca, Medina, Riyadh and the Eastern Province, and 999 in other regions of the country to report offenders. The warning follows earlier measures announced by Saudi authorities to control Hajj participation, including restrictions on visa use and penalties for unauthorised pilgrims. Officials have been tightening rules in recent years to manage crowd movement and ensure safety during the pilgrimage.
The ministry reiterated that compliance with visa rules is essential during the Hajj season and said strict action will be taken against those who fail to follow regulations, Gulf News reported.
