New Delhi: The partial reopening of airspace in some war-affected areas of West Asia allowed more than 52,000 Indian citizens stranded in the Gulf region to return home between March 1 and March 7, the government said on Sunday.

"The government is continuously monitoring the evolving situation in West Asia and the Gulf region, especially with regard to the welfare of Indian nationals who have been stranded there during transit or on short duration visits," MEA said in a statement. Indian authorities have advised Indians in West Asia to stay cautious and follow instructions issued by local authorities as well as the advisories released by Indian missions. Indian embassies and consulates have set up round-the-clock helpline numbers to assist people facing difficulties due to the war.


In countries where commercial flights are unavailable, Indians have been advised to remain in touch with the nearest embassy or consulate for guidance on alternative travel arrangements.
