An NRI from Canada recovered ₹65,000 from a Vadodara businessman with the help of Gujarat Police’s GP-SMASH initiative, PTI reported. The action was taken after the individual raised a complaint on X.

The man had paid an advance for wedding clothes to a seller in Vadodara. When the seller allegedly refused to return the deposit, the NRI posted about the issue on X.

The matter was flagged to Vadodara Police through the Gujarat Police handle. Despite time zone differences, the GP-SMASH team and the cyber branch of Vadodara Police contacted him and ensured the refund.

Launched in March 2025, GP-SMASH, Social Media Monitoring, Awareness & Systematic Handling, is a 24x7 initiative of Gujarat Police.

The Information Department said the system has already addressed more than 650 online complaints in a short span.

According to the PTI report, the release stated, “Gujarat Police is using technology to deliver quick, effective solutions to citizens — anytime, anywhere.”
