New Zealand has joined a coordinated international effort to counter rising visa fraud, partnering with Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom in a joint campaign launched during International Fraud Awareness Week. Immigration New Zealand (INZ) said the initiative aims to alert applicants to scams and promote the use of official channels as fraudulent activity becomes a growing concern worldwide.

The campaign, run under the “Fighting Visa Fraud” banner, highlights how criminal groups mislead applicants through false promises, fake documents and unauthorised agents. INZ said it will share guidance and updates across its social media platforms using the hashtag #FightingVisaFraud.

According to INZ, the focus is on encouraging applicants to rely on government websites, verify agents, and report suspicious behaviour to local authorities. The agency’s resources outline common scam tactics and steps individuals can take to safeguard personal information and visa applications.

The announcement also directs applicants to INZ’s “Protecting yourself from immigration scams” page, which provides tools for identifying fraud and understanding safe application practices. The collaboration marks a wider effort by FCM partners to strengthen public awareness and prevent exploitation of visa seekers.
