Nepal floods: MEA says 200 Indians stranded on Chinese side, 288 uncontactable

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday briefed reporters on the situation facing Indian nationals following the flash floods that have devastated the Nepal-China border region, saying the government is in constant touch with Nepalese authorities to trace those affected.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "This briefing is to update you on the latest developments regarding Indian nationals, as well as the relief efforts we have undertaken in the wake of the tragedy in Nepal. As you would have seen, our Prime Minister spoke to the Prime Minister of Nepal yesterday, conveyed our deepest condolences, expressed that India stands in solidarity with the people of Nepal, and offered all possible humanitarian assistance from our side."

According to the MEA, 200 Indian nationals remain stranded on the Chinese side of the border, while 288 Indian nationals are currently uncontactable. The ministry said 21 Indian nationals have been rescued so far. Officials said the Isha Foundation group is also among those currently untraceable.


The MEA said it is coordinating closely with Nepalese authorities on rescue and relief operations, and that relief material has been dispatched to the flood-hit areas of Nepal.
