Nepal flash floods: 8 killed, at least 105 Indians among 400 reported missing

At least 105 Indian tourists are among 384 travellers reported missing after flash floods swept through Nepal’s Rasuwa district, which borders Tibet, on Wednesday. The disaster killed four people, damaged settlements and affected at least a dozen hydropower projects.

The missing travellers include 291 foreigners and 93 Nepalese nationals, according to a statement by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB).

Among the foreign tourists, 105 are Indian nationals and 37 are non-resident Indians (NRIs). The remaining tourists are from the United States, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Australia and the Netherlands.


The flood surged through the Bhote Koshi River at around 9 a.m. local time. It affected Rasuwa and Dhading districts along the Tibet border, as well as Nuwakot district, southwest of Kathmandu.

The sudden flooding caused extensive damage to settlements along the river and affected at least a dozen hydropower projects, officials said.
