MEA sets up 24x7 control room to assist Indians affected by Nepal flash floods

In response to the severe flood situation in Nepal, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has established a 24×7 Special Control Room in New Delhi. The facility has been set up to coordinate rescue, relief, and tracking efforts for Indian nationals affected by the disaster. The ministry is maintaining round-the-clock coordination through dedicated emergency contact lines operated by the Embassy of India in Kathmandu (+977 985 131 6807, +977 970 910 7500, +977 981 032 6117) and the Embassy of India in Beijing (+86 18514284905). Additionally, the MEA has shared direct emergency contact details for local Nepalese administration and security agencies, including the Tourist Police, Nepal Army, NDRRMA, and district authorities in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, and Chitwan, to assist stranded individuals.

Additionally, to support residents stranded or facing hardship due to catastrophic flash flooding in Nepal, the Odisha government has established a 24x7 control room and helpdesk at Odisha Niwas in New Delhi.

"In view of the flood situation in Nepal, a 24x7 Control Room has been set up at Odisha Niwas, New Delhi, to provide necessary assistance to persons from Odisha in distress. Mob: +91-7428135044/ 8527580245; Landline: 011-23012807," the Odisha government said.

During a media briefing on Thursday, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that 21 rescued Indian citizens, all from Tamil Nadu, were traveling for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.

"As of 1300 hours today, we have been able to rescue 21 Indian nationals. This group of 21 people are from Tamil Nadu," Jaiswal reported. He confirmed that the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu remains in direct contact with the group to ensure their safety. "Our ambassador has spoken to people in the group and has assured all possible help. They are coming to Kathmandu, hopefully, and then arrangements will be made for their travel back home as soon as possible," he added.

Simultaneously, the MEA is addressing another group of pilgrims stranded across the border in China following the same pilgrimage. "Our embassy in Beijing is making all efforts for their safe evacuation. There are approximately 200 Indian nationals there who have sought our assistance for evacuation," Jaiswal stated.

The severe flash flooding hit the Bhotekoshi region close to Rasuwagadhi on the Nepal-China border on Wednesday. The disaster has triggered extensive search, rescue, and relief operations to find missing individuals and help those trapped.

Indian diplomatic missions in Beijing and Kathmandu continue to coordinate closely with local authorities to locate, aid, and repatriate all affected Indian citizens.
