Museum staff had paused the strike on December 19 ahead of the Christmas holidays. The action began last month and focused on workload, staffing levels and wages. Unions say employees are overworked and the museum faces management issues.
The labour dispute comes at a difficult time for the Louvre. In October, the museum suffered a major jewel robbery. Four burglars stole jewels worth $102 million, and the items remain missing.
The Louvre has also faced infrastructure problems in recent months. A water leak damaged ancient books and raised concerns about the condition of the building.
The Louvre is the world’s most visited museum. Unions are seeking more hiring, pay increases and changes in how the museum uses its funds.
