Israel has shut its airspace to all civilian flights, with authorities urging the public not to come to airports until further notice, Reuters reported.

In a statement, the Israel Airports Authority said the country’s Minister of Transport has ordered the closure of Israeli airspace to civilian aviation.

The authority also requested that members of the public avoid travelling to Israeli airports.

Preventative strike triggers emergency measures

Israel’s military said it had carried out missile strikes on Iranian territory, with witnesses in Tehran reporting explosions and smoke rising over the city.

The attack was labelled “preventative” by Israeli authorities, aimed at neutralising what they described as imminent threats to the country’s security. Sirens and proactive alerts were issued domestically to prepare the population for possible Iranian retaliation.
