Air travel faced widespread disruption on February 28 after Israel launched strikes on Iran, triggering airspace closures and flight suspensions by multiple international carriers.

Israel closed its airspace to civilian flights, while airlines across Europe and the Gulf either cancelled services or rerouted aircraft citing safety concerns.

Air India, IndiGo cancel all flights to Middle East

Air India has suspended all its flights to destinations across the Middle East, citing the developing security situation in parts of the region.


In a travel advisory posted on X, the airline said all services to Middle Eastern destinations have been halted as a precautionary measure. It added that maintaining the highest standards of safety for passengers and crew remains its priority.

IndiGo also cancelled all flights to and from the Middle East till March 1, citing evolving airspace restrictions around Iran and parts of the region.

In a travel advisory issued to passengers, the airline said the move has been taken as a precautionary step. "In an endeavour to provide support to our customers, we are extending full flexibility and waivers for travel to/from the Middle East and select Interntional sectors until 7th March 2026, applicable to bookings made on or before 28th February, 2026. Customers may opt for a full refund or reschedule at no additional cost,” IndiGo said.

Israel shuts airspace

The Israel Airports Authority said the country had closed its airspace to civilian flights after what Israel’s defence minister described as a pre-emptive attack against Iran.

The closure led to immediate suspension of arrivals and departures at Tel Aviv’s main international gateway.

Turkish Airlines halts regional services

Turkey’s national carrier Turkish Airlines has cancelled flights to Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Iran and Jordan until March 2, according to its head of communications.

The move adds to growing operational disruptions affecting routes that connect Europe, West Asia and South Asia.

Qatar Airways suspends flights

Qatar Airways announced a temporary suspension of flights due to the closure of Qatari airspace. The airline did not specify the duration of the suspension but said operations would resume once restrictions are lifted.

Air France, Iberia Express cancel Tel Aviv flights

France’s Air France said it is cancelling flights to and from Tel Aviv and Beirut that were scheduled for February 28.

Spain’s Iberia Express cancelled its flight to Tel Aviv scheduled for 1700 local time on Saturday.

Dutch carrier KLM also cancelled a flight from Amsterdam to Tel Aviv after the strikes in Iran.













Lufthansa, Wizz Air suspend services

Germany’s Lufthansa said it is suspending flights to and from Tel Aviv in Israel, Beirut in Lebanon and Oman until March 7. The airline has also suspended flights to and from Dubai for Saturday and Sunday.

Hungary-based low-cost carrier Wizz Air halted all flights to and from Israel, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Amman with immediate effect until March 7. The airline said it is closely monitoring developments and remains in contact with relevant authorities.

Dutch carrier KLM cancelled a flight from Amsterdam to Tel Aviv following the strikes in Iran.

Gulf carriers and regional authorities respond

Dubai-based flydubai said some of its flights were impacted due to the temporary closure of Iraqi, Iranian and Israeli airspace.

Oman Air said it has temporarily suspended flights to Baghdad citing developments in the region.

Kuwait’s aviation authority suspended all flights to Iran until further notice, according to the state news agency.
