Police in Lindenwold, New Jersey, have launched an active search operation. Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators shows Simran standing alone and checking her phone, possibly waiting for someone. According to officials, she did not appear to be in any distress at the time the video was recorded.
While initial reports suggested she came to the US for an arranged marriage, police now believe she may not have intended to go through with it and may have used the opportunity to enter the country.
Simran was last seen wearing gray sweatpants, a white T-shirt, and black flip flops. She had small diamond-studded earrings on. Authorities described her as being 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds, and having a small scar on the left side of her forehead.
Officials said Simran has no known relatives in the US and does not speak English. Her mobile device is an international phone that works only over Wi-Fi, making it difficult for investigators to track or reach her.
Efforts to contact her family in India have not been successful so far, police confirmed.
Authorities have appealed to the public for assistance. The department urged to contact Lindenwold Police Detective with any information.
