A fire in a residential building in Germany on December 31 led to the death of a 22-year-old engineering student from Telangana, prompting his family to seek urgent assistance for bringing his body back to India.

According to a TOI report, Thokala Hruthik Reddy, a resident of Malkapur village in Chilpur mandal of Jangaon district, was staying in Brandenburg near Berlin while pursuing his master’s degree at the University of Europe for Applied Sciences in Potsdam. According to information shared with his family, a fire broke out on the floor where his apartment was located, trapping him inside. With the corridor filled with smoke and flames blocking the exit, he jumped from the building in an attempt to escape. He suffered severe head injuries.

He was taken to a hospital but did not survive. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Hruthik had completed his engineering studies at a private college in Warangal before moving to Germany for higher education. His relatives in Malkapur said they were informed of the incident by German authorities. They have appealed to Indian officials for help in arranging the repatriation of his body to Telangana.
