Indian-origin man charged for stealing money from donation boxes in Canada

A 41-year-old man of Indian origin has been charged with breaking into temples and stealing money from donation boxes in Canada's Peel region. The accused, Jagdish Pandher from Brampton, has been charged with five counts of breaking and entering into places of worship. Peel police, in cooperation with other police departments in the Greater Toronto Area, investigated the incidents and successfully apprehended the suspect.

As per reports, several break-and-enter incidents were reported in Region comprising Brampton, Mississauga and Caledon between March and August 2023. During this period, Peel Regional Police investigated three break-ins at temples. Surveillance cameras captured images of a thief taking money from donation boxes during these incidents. Additionally, the accused is also alleged to have broken into two businesses and stolen an undisclosed amount of money.

Investigators have stated that while some of the offences occurred at places of worship, they believe that the crimes were motivated by the opportunity to steal cash rather than hate.


Meanwhile, Eastern Canada is grappling with a historic multi-day snowstorm, prompting a local state of emergency and widespread closures of schools, universities, and government offices.

The Cape Breton Regional Municipality in Nova Scotia declared a state of emergency as some areas received up to 80 centimeters of snow. Authorities have urged residents to stay indoors and clear snow from their homes to ensure access and safety.

Reports indicate extreme snowfall, with Sydney's airport recording over 90 centimeters and downtown Sydney buried under 150 centimeters of snow.

Airports in Halifax, Moncton, and Charlottetown are advising passengers to monitor flight statuses closely.

Environment Canada has issued winter storm warnings for Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick, underscoring the severity of the situation.
