An Indian migration agent in Australia has been barred from practising for five years after authorities found multiple violations, including submitting false information in visa applications.

Vaneet Kaur Chadha, who worked with Sydney-based Royal Migration & Education Consultants, had her registration cancelled following an investigation by the Office of the Migration Agents Registration Authority (OMARA), according to a report by The Noticer.

Regulator flags false and misleading conduct

OMARA reviewed visa applications submitted by Chadha to the Department of Home Affairs and raised concerns over her conduct. The authority found that she had “failed to act in accordance with the law” by not declaring immigration assistance provided to clients and by submitting false and misleading information.

The regulator stated that Chadha made false statements in support of visa applications and in communication with authorities, which she knew to be misleading. It also found that she engaged in misleading advertising practices and implied a relationship with the Department of Home Affairs.

OMARA further said Chadha failed to supervise staff adequately and allowed unlawful immigration assistance to be provided through her business.

As per The Noticer report, the authority concluded that she was “not a person of integrity or is otherwise not a fit and proper person to give immigration assistance”.

Role, claims and business operations

Chadha was first registered as a migration agent in 2016 and was associated with a consultancy that claims to assist thousands of immigrants each year with student and other visa applications.

In promotional videos shared earlier, she had said, “With years of legal experience in migration matters, and being a migrant myself, I understand how overwhelming the migration journey could be.”

In another video, she cautioned applicants about submitting incorrect documents, stating: “Stay truthful and avoid future complications. Your integrity matters.”

While Chadha was penalised, Royal Migration & Education Consultants has not been accused of wrongdoing, according to The Noticer.

The action by OMARA comes as scrutiny increases on migration agents handling visa applications in Australia.
