In a notice released on Saturday, the Embassy stated, "In view of the ongoing clashes at the Cambodia-Thailand border, Indian nationals are advised to avoid travelling to the border areas." The advisory also included emergency contact details, urging Indian citizens in Cambodia to reach out to the Indian Embassy in Phnom Penh at +855 92881676 or via email at cons.phnompenh@mea.gov.in in case of an emergency.
A day earlier, the Indian Embassy in Thailand issued a similar warning, asking Indian travellers to avoid seven Thai provinces near the Cambodian border. It also urged them to stay informed through official Thai channels, including the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s online newsroom, TAT Newsroom.
According to reports from CNN, the recent fighting along the shared border has caused a large-scale humanitarian crisis, displacing over 100,000 people in just 48 hours. The conflict stems from a century-old territorial dispute linked to colonial-era maps. Cambodia refers to the French-drawn boundary from its colonial period before 1953, a claim Thailand disputes.
Both countries have since written to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), seeking intervention, ANI reported. The UNSC scheduled an emergency session on Saturday to address the conflict, as reported by local media in Cambodia and Thailand.
