Indian Consulate in Dubai warns UAE Indians against biometric data fraud

The Consulate General of India in Dubai has warned Indian nationals in the UAE against unauthorised agents offering help with visa regularisation, Emergency Certificates, exit permits, Emirates ID and employment. The consulate said such agents are using these services to scam people and misuse their biometric and personal information.

The advisory said some Indian nationals, particularly blue-collar workers, have been asked by such individuals to provide face scans and fingerprints. The biometric data is then allegedly used to carry out financial transactions, open bank accounts or obtain loans and credit cards without their knowledge or consent.

The consulate warned that victims could become liable for financial dues or transactions they did not make, potentially leading to fines, travel bans and, in some cases, jail time.

It advised Indian nationals not to share their passports, Emirates IDs, biometric data or personal and financial credentials with unauthorised individuals or agencies.

Where biometric scans are required for exit permits, Emirates IDs or visa regularisation, they should be provided only at official UAE government facilities and counters.

The consulate also clarified that the Consulate General of India in Dubai and the Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi do not require fingerprint or face/eye scans from applicants for issuing passports or Emergency Certificates.

Indian nationals who are approached by agents demanding biometric data or Emirates IDs have been advised to contact the Pravasi Bharatiya Sahayata Kendra through the toll-free number 80064342, WhatsApp/SMS at 00971543090571, or email pbsk.dubai@mea.gov.in.

The consulate urged Indians living in or visiting the UAE to verify the credentials of individuals or agencies offering such services and report suspicious activity to the consulate or relevant UAE authorities.
