India raises concern over Minneapolis shooting, cites safety of Indian diaspora in US

India on Friday said it is concerned over the shooting incident in Minneapolis, pointing to the presence of a large Indian community in the United States.

“India is concerned on Minnepolis shooting as we have large number of people from Indian diaspora in the US,” the MEA said, responding to questions on the fatal shooting involving a US immigration agent.

The comment comes amid heightened scrutiny in the US after a woman was shot dead during an immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis. According to US authorities, the incident occurred when federal agents were carrying out an operation linked to immigration violations.


The Department of Homeland Security claimed the agent acted in self-defence, alleging the woman attempted to use her vehicle against officers.

However, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey publicly disputed the federal government’s version of events after reviewing video footage of the incident. He rejected the self-defence claim and criticised the conduct of immigration agents, saying their actions had caused fear and unrest in the city.

The shooting has triggered protests and renewed debate in the US over immigration enforcement tactics and the use of force by federal agents. Local officials and members of the community have demanded a transparent investigation into the incident.
