Heavy rainfall swept through New York City and surrounding areas on Friday, killing at least two people and causing widespread disruption to air travel across the region. Authorities reported flooding in several boroughs, leading to delays and cancellations at major airports including LaGuardia, John F. Kennedy, and Newark Liberty International.

Flight operations were heavily affected as the storm intensified through the afternoon. LaGuardia Airport announced that severe weather had led to multiple flight disruptions, urging passengers to “check with your airline to determine the status of your flight.” Similar advisories were issued by JFK and Newark airports. JFK Airport stated, “Forecasted weather conditions may affect your flight and cause disruptions,” while Newark Liberty International warned that “due to anticipated severe weather in the Northeast, contact your airline for flight information prior to arriving at #EWR Airport.”

Public transport services also reported delays as heavy rain flooded several subway lines.

Weather officials recorded 1.85 inches (4.7 cm) of rainfall in Central Park, marking a record for the day. LaGuardia Airport received 2.09 inches (5.31 cm), while Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey reported 1.99 inches (5.05 cm).

The National Weather Service has also issued coastal flood warnings for several parts of the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens, advising residents to remain cautious amid continued heavy rain.
