Dubai Airports said some flights originally scheduled to operate from Dubai International Airport were diverted to Al Maktoum International Airport as authorities temporarily suspended operations following the drone incident that struck a fuel tank near the airport.
Authorities said the fire triggered by the incident was quickly contained and there were no reports of injuries. Emergency response teams were deployed immediately to secure the area and manage the situation.
Flights to and from Dubai were temporarily suspended as a precaution while authorities assessed the situation and ensured safety at the airport, one of the world’s busiest international aviation hubs.
"All flights to and from Dubai have been temporarily suspended. Please do not go to the airport. Emirates will share updates when available. We would like to thank our customers for their understanding and patience. The safety of our passengers and crew is our highest priority and will not be compromised," Emirates said in a statement.
The development comes amid escalating regional tensions and a wave of missile and drone attacks across Gulf states linked to the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel.
