The incident comes days after hoax bomb threats affected several European flights, leading to diversions and security checks.
The French Prime Minister's office confirmed that the situation was being closely monitored. "Monitoring the situation closely regarding this plane that was diverted after bomb alert," the office said, according to Reuters.
The incident comes two days after several flights across Europe received hoax bomb threats, triggering aircraft diversions, security searches and delays.
The affected flights included services operated by LOT Polish Airlines, Scandinavian Airlines, Wizz Air and Ryanair, according to the Associated Press. In one instance, the Italian Air Force escorted an aircraft until it landed.
A day before those threats, another aircraft heading to Bulgaria was diverted to Hungary after receiving a similar bomb threat while in the air.
According to flight-tracking website Flightradar24, an Aer Lingus aircraft turned near Paris and was circling over the Evreux area after declaring an in-flight emergency. At least seven flights and a cruise ship in Europe received bomb threats on Tuesday, causing disruption at airports although no devices were discovered.
No one was injured in that incident. The latest alert adds to a series of security-related disruptions affecting European air travel. Passengers travelling on affected routes may face unexpected diversions, delays and missed connections. They should check flight updates with their airlines before travelling.
