"All scheduled Consular Appointments for MONDAY, DECEMBER 4 are cancelled due to CYCLONE MICHAUNG and will be rescheduled. The U.S. Consulate General Chennai, American Center and EducationUSA office will remain closed to the public.," the US Consulate said in a statement.
"Cyclone Michaung is expected to bring very heavy rainfall and strong winds to the northern coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, beginning Sunday afternoon, December 3, and continuing through December 4. Consequently, the U.S. Consulate General in Chennai will be closed on Monday, December 4," the Consulate added.
VFS Global, too, shared an update for visa applicants in Chennai.
"Our Visa Application Centres in Chennai will remain closed on 4 December 2023 (Monday) in view of a local weather advisory over Cyclone Michaung," the visa consultant firm said.
Cyclone Michaung led to the disruption of normal life in Tamil Nadu on Monday, with Chennai being the worst affected. Heavy rainfall has lashed the state capital, resulting in water logging of subways and arterial roads.
Chennai airport operations were suspended from 9.40 a.m. to 11.40 a.m. As many as 70 flights arriving at and departing from the airport were cancelled owing to non-stop rains.
