Bomb threat leads to unscheduled landing of LOT flight at Warsaw-Modlin airport

A passenger aircraft flying from London to Warsaw made an unscheduled landing at Warsaw-Modlin Airport in Poland on Tuesday after a bomb threat alert was reported on board, forcing the airport to suspend operations until further notice.

The Boeing 737 MAX, operated by Polish airline LOT, was carrying 181 people, the airport said in a statement.

According to the airport, the bomb threat alert was reported at 9.54 am local time on a flight operating from London Heathrow Airport to Warsaw Chopin Airport. The aircraft was diverted and landed at Warsaw-Modlin Airport at 10.01 am.


Following the landing, the airport was closed while security services began checking the reported threat.

"Due to the situation, Warsaw/Modlin Airport remains closed until further notice. The services are underway to verify the reported threat and ensure the safety of all people present at the airport," the airport said.

A spokesperson for LOT confirmed that the aircraft involved was operated by the Polish airline.

The airport did not immediately provide details about the nature of the bomb threat or whether any suspicious object had been found on the aircraft.

Security teams were continuing their checks to establish whether the threat was genuine and ensure the safety of passengers, airport staff and others present at the facility.

The unscheduled landing at Warsaw-Modlin diverted the flight from its scheduled destination, Warsaw Chopin Airport, the Polish capital's main international airport.
