Air New Zealand hikes fares, cuts flights as fuel costs more than double on Iran war

Air New Zealand said on Tuesday it would slash flights across May and June as well as hike fares, as the Iran war ‌disrupts global ⁠air ⁠travel and sends jet fuel costs higher.

The airline said the flight consolidations, its second such move in nearly a month, would affect around 4% of flights and 1% of total ⁠passengers due ‌to travel across May and June.

"Like airlines globally, ⁠we're experiencing jet fuel prices that are more than double what they would usually be," an Air NZ spokesperson said.


The company said affected customers will be notified from 2100 GMT Monday, with all ‌notifications completed by the end of the week.

Air NZ had said in March, about ⁠two weeks into the war, that it would cut 5% of its flights through early May.

Closures in major aviation hubs across the Middle East has also weighed on the sector.
