US-Israel attack Iran: Air India flights cancelled amid tensions in Middle East
Tata-owned Air India has announced additional flight cancellations for Sunday amid rising tensions and airspace closure in the Middle East, including flights to popular destinations like London, Birmingham, Milan, Frankfurt and Copenhagen.

The Indian airline said it is closely monitoring the situation and a careful assessment of the evolving situation in the Middle East has necessitated further curtailment of its scheduled operations.

Rising conflict in the Middle East has led to major flight disruptions as governments have announced airspace closures for safety purposes in Iran, Israel and Iraq.

The international conflict has led to major disruptions across global aviation hubs, with airlines suspending services to Gulf destinations as a precautionary measure.

Air India announced multiple flight cancellations for March 1 on Saturday night as US and Israel launched attacks on Iran, killing Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

The Air India flights cancelled earlier includes the following:

The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has informed that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is in complete coordination with all the concerned airlines to ensure passenger safety and operational regulations.

"Due to airspace restrictions over Iran and parts of the Middle East, 410 flights of domestic carriers were cancelled on 28 February, and 444 flights are expected to be cancelled on 1 March. DGCA is maintaining close coordination with airlines to ensure full compliance with safety and operational regulations," MoCA said in a post on X.

The DGCA has advised airlines to avoid airspaces of 11 countries, till March 2. The countries are Iran, Israel, Lebanon, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait and Qatar.

India's largest airline IndiGo issued a statement notifying that it is observing developments across parts of the Middle East and surrounding regions with utmost attentiveness and assured passengers that every decision is being taken with care and prudence.

IndiGo has extended the temporary suspension of select international flights that use Middle East airspace till March 2, in view of the prevailing situation. This extension is a precautionary measure to ensure that we uphold the highest standards of safety for our customers and crew, it said.

The airline has extended full flexibility and waivers for travel to and from the Middle East, along with other impacted international sectors, until March 7, for bookings made on or before February 28. IndiGo has allowed passengers to opt for a full refund or reschedule at no additional cost.
