Air India has launched EasyRoam, an international travel SIM that will allow passengers to access mobile data and voice services while travelling abroad.

The service has been developed in partnership with Tata Communications and is available as both a physical SIM and an eSIM through a dedicated Air India-branded webpage. It is aimed at passengers who need mobile connectivity during international trips without arranging a local SIM after reaching their destination.

During the initial rollout, the EasyRoam SIM itself is available free of cost, although customers will have to pay for the selected international roaming pack.

Roaming packs are currently available across 30 countries covering North America, Europe, including the UK, Australia, Asia Pacific and the Middle East. Plans start at Rs 241, excluding taxes, with the final price depending on the destination and plan selected.

Customers buying a data plan can also receive up to 1GB of additional complimentary data. This offer is available across all covered countries except the Maldives and Mauritius.

Air India said the geographical coverage of EasyRoam will be expanded progressively to as many as 190 countries.

Travellers can select either destination-specific plans or worldwide travel plans. Depending on their requirements, they can also choose between data-only plans and plans that provide both voice and data services.

Vivek Manglik, Executive Vice President – Interaction Fabric, Tata Communications, said: “Today’s travellers expect travel experience to be seamless, instant and secure. Through our collaboration with Air India, we’re bringing travel connectivity into the booking journey itself, enabling customers to choose and activate their mobile plan before departure and go online the moment they arrive. Together, we’re making international connectivity simpler, more secure and more transparent, giving travellers greater control, visibility and peace of mind wherever they travel.”

Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer, Air India, said: “The way people travel has evolved over the years. Today’s travellers increasingly live, work and socialise across borders, and they expect uninterrupted access to the digital services that power their daily lives. EasyRoam addresses this need by enabling our customers to stay connected effortlessly while travelling internationally, without the hassle of arranging for connectivity after arrival. It is another step in our effort to create a more seamless, digitally enabled travel experience in partnership with Tata Communications.”
