At least 15 Indian tourists dead after speedboat capsizes in Vietnam off Phu Quoc Island
At least 15 Indian tourists lost their lives after a speedboat overturned near Vietnam's Phu Quoc Island on Saturday, with local authorities confirming the fatalities, according to AP.

The report said 21 people survived the accident. The boat was carrying 36 people which included 32 Indian tourists, three crew members and one attendant.

The Indian Embassy in Vietnam released the names of the 32 Indian touristswho were on board the boat that capsized near Phu Quoc Island. In a post on X, it said it was continuing to verify details about the casualties and would provide further updates as more information becomes available.

However, there is no confirmation regarding the deaths from the indian authorities yet.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the tragedy and said Indian diplomatic missions were extending all possible assistance to those affected.

"Extremely saddened to learn about the tragic news of a boat accident involving Indian nationals near Phu Quoc, Vietnam. My sincere condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. My prayers for the early recovery of the injured survivors. Our Embassy and Consulate are providing all possible assistance. Our officials are also in close contact with the Vietnamese authorities," Modi said in a post on X.

Following the incident, the Indian Embassy in Vietnam set up emergency response centres in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to assist the affected families as search and rescue operations continued.

The embassy said local authorities are still verifying the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.

State Minister for NRI Empowerment & Relations Kondapalli Srinivassaid, "We are collecting data on how many people from Andhra Pradesh died in the boat accident in Vietnam. We are monitoring the situation from Delhi. Minister Nara Lokesh and the Andhra Pradesh government are closely monitoring the developments. As of now, we do not have the exact number of victims from Andhra Pradesh."

It added that dedicated control rooms have been established at the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City and the Embassy in Hanoi to provide information and assistance to those affected.

The Indian mission said both helplines are operational to respond to queries and provide necessary assistance.
