Rains return to Mumbai after brief respite; IMD predicts more showers this week
Mumbai is bracing for another spell of wet weather as the IMD forecasts light to moderate rain across the city and its suburbs. After a brief respite following heavy downpours earlier this month, intermittent showers are expected to persist throug...

The forecast suggests that while the intensity of rain is not expected to be as severe as earlier this month, intermittent showers will continue to mark the start of the week.
Rains return
On Sunday, scattered rainfall was reported from several areas, including Dadar, Andheri, Borivali, Mulund, Lalbaug and Chembur, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).Despite wet conditions, the city did not witness widespread waterlogging or major traffic disruptions. Local train services on both Central and Western routes also remained unaffected, providing some respite to commuters.
The renewed showers come after the city endured a battering on August 19, when torrential rains submerged roads and rail tracks, caused waterlogging in low-lying areas and disrupted air as well as rail travel. F
ollowing that deluge, Mumbai had seen a few quieter days, with lighter rainfall and more stable conditions. However, with the monsoon currents still active along the western coast, the IMD expects more showers to return in the coming days.
Outlook for the week
While Sunday’s rainfall was manageable, civic authorities remain on guard against potential flooding if heavier spells occur. The IMD has indicated that intermittent rain will persist through the week, with occasional strong showers possible depending on the movement of monsoon systems.
As Mumbai heads deeper into the second half of the monsoon season, officials are urging residents to stay alert, follow advisories, and factor in possible weather-related disruptions when planning travel. For now, the forecast points to a wet start to the week, though not at the intensity witnessed during the city’s earlier deluge.
