The India Meteorological Department issued an 'orange alert' for Kozhikode and Wayanad districts for three hours, from 7 pm onwards.
It said that thunderstorms with moderate rainfall and gusty winds, with speeds reaching 50 kilometres per hour, were likely to occur at isolated places in the two districts.
Additionally, the IMD said that thunderstorms with light to moderate rainfall and winds with speeds reaching 40 kilometres per hour were likely in parts of Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam districts.
Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Alappuzha districts were likely to receive light rainfall, it added.
An 'orange alert' indicates very heavy rainfall of 11 cm to 20 cm.
