The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that rains in Delhi will intensify from Monday and persist through the week, with conditions expected to remain unsettled until Saturday. The city is likely to see cloudy skies until Wednesday, accompanied by one or two spells of light to moderate showers or thundershowers in the afternoon or evening.

The forecast comes after very heavy rainfall drenched parts of the national capital on Sunday.

Localities such as Moti Bagh, Dwarka, Lajpat Nagar, RK Puram, Lodhi Road, and stretches along the Delhi-Haryana border witnessed intense downpours. Despite the heavy showers, authorities confirmed there were no significant reports of waterlogging, traffic snarls, or delays at the airport.

Temperatures in the capital remained moderate, ranging between 32°C and 34°C, while the Met department reported isolated spells of rain across different neighbourhoods during the afternoon and evening.

Recent rainfall incidents

Delhi has seen frequent bouts of heavy rain in recent weeks, triggering waterlogging in several areas and causing damage.

Last Thursday, a 50-year-old man, Sudhir Kumar, died after he and his 22-year-old daughter, Priya, were pinned under a neem tree that collapsed near Paras Chowk in Kalkaji during a rainstorm.

Both were rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where Kumar was declared dead, while his daughter was treated for injuries. Police said the incident occurred around 9:50 am, adding that rescue teams, including local officers and traffic personnel, responded immediately to the scene.

The wet phase is also expected to extend to other northwestern states, including Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir, where heavy rainfall is forecast over the coming days
