Bengaluru is in for a drenching Friday, September 19, with the day expected to bring heavy rainfall and thick cloud cover. Temperatures will hover between a cool 19.8°C in the morning and a moderate 25.2°C by afternoon.

Meanwhile, humidity is pegged at a sticky 87%, meaning residents may feel warmer than the mercury suggests; while, winds are forecast to blow at around 18 km/h, while visibility could dip to 8.1 km as rain intensifies, especially in the latter half of the day.

In addition, evening hours are likely to be breezy with temperatures dipping slightly, but overcast skies mean no real break from the damp conditions.

In light of this, commuters are advised to plan cautiously, as waterlogging in low-lying areas is likely.

Carrying umbrellas, waterproof footwear, and light breathable clothing will help counter the dual challenge of rain and high humidity. Indoors, residents may want to use dehumidifiers or keep ventilation steady to avoid dampness.

The weekend of September 20 and 21 is expected to remain wet, with moderate showers and daytime temperatures holding steady between 19°C and 26°C. The early part of next week (September 22–23) could bring brief but intense bursts of rainfall, before giving way to lighter, patchier showers on September 24 and 25.

Humidity will remain high throughout, making conditions feel heavier than the thermometer suggests.

September 24 is tipped as the most favorable day for outdoor activity, with rain probability easing to 73% — lower than other days.

Still, the city will remain in a rain-heavy phase for much of the week, ensuring a mix of cooler air, persistent dampness, and continued relief from rising pollution levels.

Yesterday’s snapshot – clear air, calm skies

Thursday gave Bengaluru a brief pause before the downpour, with the city recording one of its cleanest air days of the month.

The air quality index (AQI) stood at 41 on Indian standards—classified as “good”—while US metrics placed it at 59, still well within safe limits. PM2.5 was measured at 14 µg/m³, PM10 at 41 µg/m³, and carbon monoxide levels were stable at 399 µg/m³.

This improvement came on the back of milder skies and steady breezes. With today’s expected rainfall, the city is likely to see further cleansing of airborne pollutants, though high humidity could make outdoor activity uncomfortable.

Meteorologists suggest that the steady rainfall will help sustain the positive air quality trend. The showers are expected to wash away lingering dust and pollutants, keeping AQI levels on the “good” side for the next several days. For residents, this means fresher mornings despite the muggy air.
