Kolkata trams to get an upgrade, AC coaches and new routes including Dakshineswar–Kalighat proposed

West Bengal Transport Minister Arjun Singh announced a proposal to modernise Kolkata’s historic tram network at an interactive session organised by the Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce and Industry, outlining plans to reintroduce air-conditioned trams and expand routes across the city. He said the government has appointed RITES to conduct a feasibility survey within 30 days, while also considering battery-powered trams, electric buses, and broader multimodal transport upgrades to strengthen urban mobility.
