'It's hotter than hell': New Yorkers, pets seek relief as heat wave scorches city
As a heat wave pushed temperatures in New York City to 100 degrees Fahrenheit (37.8 Celsius), residents, tourists and their pets searched for ways to stay cool. At Battery Park, visitors sought relief at cooling stations and water fountains, while umbrellas offered protection from the intense sun. Tourists also braved the sweltering conditions to take in the city's landmarks. A heat wave baked Times Square, sending tourists and workers to misting stations and shade as a thermometer at the TKTS red steps showed readings of 100 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit. The Naked Cowboy said, "Guys, it's official. Live from Times Square, it's hotter than hell."
