India approves first hydrogen-powered train operations on Jind-Sonipat line in Haryana

India approves operations of its first hydrogen-powered passenger train under Northern Railway. The hydrogen-powered DEMU train will run on Haryana’s Jind-Sonipat route and use hydrogen fuel cells instead of diesel or electric traction systems. Officials said the train completed technical and safety clearances, while commercial passenger services will begin only after pending compliance procedures conclude.
