HAL-Safran Helicopter Engines sign deal for ‘Aravalli’ engine to power medium-lift helicopters
HAL and French company Safran Helicopter Engines have signed the final contract to develop the ‘Aravalli’, a new 3,500-4,000 shp turboshaft engine for India’s proposed 13-tonne Indian Multi-Role Helicopter (IMRH) and its naval DBMRH variant. Developed through the Safhal joint venture, the programme covers design, development, manufacturing and lifecycle support. Safran says this is its first co-development of an engine in this power class. The programme could strengthen India’s aero-engine capabilities, MRO ecosystem and reduce dependence on imported helicopter engines.
