Ebola crisis deepens: WHO reports 1,094 Cases, 277 deaths and response falling behind
The World Health Organization has issued a stark warning that the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda is continuing to outpace response efforts. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the outbreak is “continuing to move fast,” with 1,094 confirmed cases and 277 deaths recorded in the DRC alone. Health officials say contact tracing remains inadequate, treatment capacity is insufficient, and border closures are hampering containment efforts. The outbreak has also infected nearly 80 health workers, highlighting the dangers faced by frontline responders. While the WHO says the risk to the wider world remains low, it is calling for urgent action and greater international support to prevent the crisis from worsening.
