On Wednesday, the Bombay High Court had directed the Family Court to hear their case on Thursday, considering Chahal's participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL), which begins on March 22.
As per reports, Chahal and Verma were living separately for over 2.5 years. The couple had requested the court to waive the mandatory six-month cooling-off period and grant them a divorce immediately.
Under Section 13B of the Hindu Marriage Act, estranged couples must attempt reconciliation during this period before proceeding with divorce. However, a 2017 Supreme Court ruling allows for this period to be waived if both parties mutually agree.
Earlier, on February 20, the Family Court denied their request for an early divorce due to partial alimony payments. Chahal had agreed to pay Dhanashree Rs 4.75 crore as alimony but had only transferred Rs 2.37 crore at the time of the hearing. The court noted that he had only partially fulfilled the settlement terms.
Chahal has become the most expensive spinner in the IPL 2025 season after securing a massive Rs 18 crore deal with Punjab Kings. His selection has been one of the most talked-about moments of the auction, highlighting his value as a top-tier bowler.
