Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 82 runs on the second day of the fourth Test between India and Australia in Melbourne before running himself out in a bizarre incident with Virat Kohli.

On his way to 82, Jaiswal entered the elite list top five Indians with most Test runs in a calendar year as he surpassed Sachin Tendulkar's tally of 1,392 runs in 2002. The 22-year-old needed 81 runs to surpass Tendulkar at the start of the innings.



The top five Indians’ list is headed by Tendulkar’s 1,562 runs in 2010. Overall, Pakistan’s Mohammad Yousuf has the record of scoring the most runs in a calendar year. He recorded 1,788 runs in 2006.

In 2024, Jaiswal has scored three centuries and eight fifties with the highest score of 214 not out. He still has one more innings left before the year ends.
