'Worst IPL' trends on Twitter after KKR vs SRH final; fans vent frustration through memes
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) clinched their third IPL championship by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2024 final at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. The match was criticized as the 'Worst IPL' by some fans on social media.

KKR’s bowlers, spearheaded by stellar performances from Andre Russell (3-19), Mitchell Starc (2-14), and Harshit Rana (2-24), bundled out SRH for a meager 113, marking the lowest total in an IPL final. In response, KKR's batsmen, led by Venkatesh Iyer's unbeaten 52 off 26 balls, chased down the target in just 10.3 overs, securing their second IPL title in Chennai.
However, many cricket enthusiasts were left disheartened by the result and took to social media to express their disappointment.
Following the IPL final, the hashtag 'Worst IPL' began trending on X (formerly Twitter).
"One X user commented, "Easily the worst IPL final ever," while extending congratulations to the KKR team.
"Honestly, this is the worst IPL final ever played. CSK vs RCB was way more intense than this. That game was bigger than the final," remarked another.
"Congrats KKR! The whole team was phenomenal. Kolkata Knight Riders, Hyderabad worst IPL. Gautam Gambhir must be very proud today," added another, with Kavya Maran also appreciating Kolkata Knight Riders.
Here are some hilarious memes trending on X after the KKR vs SRH IPL 2024 final.
Earlier, opting to bat first, SRH encountered a disastrous start as they lost their top batsmen, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, with just six runs on the board. The latter was dismissed for a first-ball duck to a beautiful outswinger.
SRH found themselves in dire straits as Starc accounted for the wicket of Rahul Tripathi, leaving them reeling at 21/3 in the fifth over, with the swing proving effective for the KKR bowlers early on.
First-change bowler Harshit Rana maintained the pressure and dismissed Nitish Reddy (13). Andre Russell struck in his first over to dismiss Aiden Markram as SRH slipped to 62/5 in the 11th over.
From there, SRH could not stage a recovery.
Brief scores:
Sunrisers Hyderabad: 113 all out in 18.3 overs (Pat Cummins 24; Mitchell Starc 2/14, Andre Russell 3/19, Harshit Rana 2/24).
Kolkata Knight Riders: 114 for 2 in 10.3 overs (Venkatesh Iyer 52 not out).
