Which new sports will debut at Los Angeles 2028 Olympics?

With the Paris Olympics concluded, attention now turns to the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles, California. Here’s a look at every sport debuting or returning to the Olympics in 2028.

The inclusion of cricket in the LA Olympics marks only the second time in the history of the Games that the sport has been featured. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) officially approved cricket's return in 2023. The only previous Olympic appearance of cricket was in the 1900 Paris Games, where just one men’s match was played between Great Britain and France. Details regarding the venue and schedule for the T20 matches in Los Angeles are still pending.

Baseball and softball will return to the Olympics in a combined format, with separate events for men’s baseball and women’s softball. However, the baseball/softball events will not take place in Los Angeles but will be held in Oklahoma City to utilize existing sports facilities.

Additionally, flag football will make its Olympic debut in both men's and women's divisions. This no-contact sport, played in teams of five, promises to bring a new level of excitement to the Games.

Lacrosse will reappear in the Olympics in its Sixes format, offering a faster-paced version of the traditional sport. This marks lacrosse's third appearance, having previously featured in the 1904 and 1908 Games.

Squash, which was showcased as a demonstration sport at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, will officially debut in the 2028 Olympics.
