South Africa won the toss and opted to field first. India were bowled out for 251 in 49.1 overs.
Smriti Mandhana breaks world record
Indian opener Smriti Mandhana broke a long-standing world record during India’s third match of the tournament. With her 23-run knock off 32 balls, Mandhana became the highest run-scorer in a calendar year in Women's One Day Internationals, surpassing the 970-run mark. The previous record of 970 runs was held by Australia’s Belinda Clark, set in 1997.
Mandhana also provided one of the highlights of the Indian innings when she struck a clean six back over the bowler’s head in the eighth over, off the bowling of South Africa’s Ayabonga Khaka. The shot marked a rare moment of aggression in an otherwise steady start.
India's form and recent performances
India came into the match with momentum, having secured two commanding wins—by 59 runs against Sri Lanka and 88 runs against Pakistan. South Africa, meanwhile, had a mixed start to their campaign, losing by 10 wickets to England before bouncing back with a six-wicket win over New Zealand, the 2024 T20 World Cup winners.
