Rizwan fell short of his first double century in Tests due to a declaration by captain Shan Masood. He scored 171 not out off 239 deliveries. As Rizwan walked back to the pavilion, his teammates gathered near the boundary line to applaud his outstanding performance.
In a lighthearted moment, Rizwan tossed his bat towards Babar Azam, who caught it, and the two shared a friendly laugh.
The innings was studded with 11 boundaries and three sixes, highlighting Rizwan's ability to score runs across all parts of the ground.
Shadman Islam scores half-century
Bangladesh opener Shadman Islam scored a resilient half-century on Friday, guiding his team to 134-2 at lunch on the third day of the first Test against Pakistan in Rawalpindi. The 29-year-old left-hander was unbeaten on 53, alongside senior batter Mominul Haque, who was also not out on 45. Together, they resisted Pakistan's pace attack on a Rawalpindi pitch that has significantly slowed down.
Bangladesh trails Pakistan's first innings total of 448-6 by 314 runs, with eight wickets remaining.
Shadman struck pacer Naseem Shah's last delivery before the break for his sixth boundary, reaching his third Test half-century and extending the unbroken third-wicket partnership with Haque to 81 runs.
This partnership helped Bangladesh recover after Pakistan dismissed Zakir Hasan (12) and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (16) during a prolonged three-hour session caused by Friday prayers.
Haque also displayed confidence, hitting four boundaries. Pakistan used all four of their pacers but lacked a frontline spinner, with part-time slow bowler Agha Salman making little impact in his eight overs.
Beginning their innings at 27-0, Bangladesh lost Zakir to a sharp catch by wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan, who dove to his left to grab a one-handed catch off Naseem Shah's fifth over.
Shanto, who looked promising in his brief innings, was bowled by Khurram Shahzad between bat and pad, leaving Bangladesh at 53-2.
