Former England captain Michael Vaughan wasted no time in taking a subtle dig at Pakistan team director Mickey Arthur after their shocking 8-wicket loss to Afghanistan in the ODI World Cup match in Chennai on Monday. Vaughan took to social media platform 'X' to mock the South African, stating, "I presume ‘Dil Dil’ Pakistan wasn’t played in Chennai today."

Arthur had previously criticized the BCCI for not playing the song 'Dil Dil Pakistan' during Pakistan's match against India in Ahmedabad, where they suffered a seven-wicket defeat. "Look, I'd be lying if I said that it didn't seem like an ICC event, tonight, to be brutally honest. It seemed like a bilateral series; it seemed like a BCCI event. I didn't hear Dil Dil Pakistan coming through the microphones too often tonight," Arthur had said.

On the match front, Afghanistan's spirited team continued their remarkable streak of upsets, leaving Pakistan on the brink of elimination with an eight-wicket victory. Despite the challenging conditions of the Chepauk pitch, Afghanistan successfully chased a target of 283. The opening partnership between Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who scored 65 off 53 balls, and Ibrahim Zadran, who made 87 off 113 balls, set a solid foundation with a 130-run stand.

Afghanistan showed resilience and adaptability, successfully chasing down the target in 49 overs. This victory highlighted the shortcomings of the Pakistan bowling unit, which struggled to make an impact on the day. Afghanistan, despite their previous seven ODI defeats against Pakistan, delivered a comprehensive performance, securing their second win in the tournament after defeating defending champions England in New Delhi. With four points, they now sit in the sixth position in the mid-table standings, impressing the cricketing world with their fearless performances.
