Virat Kohli once again underlined his enduring brilliance with a masterful knock in the first ODI of the three-match series. Chasing a challenging target of 301, Kohli anchored the innings with a fluent 93 off 91 balls, guiding India to a four-wicket win and a 1–0 lead in the series. Despite having already retired from T20 Internationals and Test cricket, his consistency in the ODI format remains unmistakable.

Historic Milestones During the Chase

Kohli’s innings was not just match-winning but also record-breaking. During the knock, he became the fastest batter in history to reach 28,000 international runs across formats. He also climbed to second place on the all-time list of international run-scorers, moving past several legends to sit just behind Sachin Tendulkar.

Viral Video Reveals Kohli’s Rapid Pre-Batting Routine

A fan-shot video from the match has since gone viral, offering a rare look into Kohli’s pre-batting ritual. The footage captures him padding up almost immediately after Rohit Sharma was dismissed. In a matter of seconds, Kohli is seen spraying perfume, applying lotion to his hands, taking a quick bite, pulling on his gloves, and walking out to the middle without hesitation — a snapshot of his calm efficiency under pressure.

Having competed against Kohli and also shared a dressing room with him at Royal Challengers Bengaluru, New Zealand all-rounder Kyle Jamieson admitted that the Indian batter continues to operate on a different plane altogether.

Jamieson acknowledged that it is difficult to say whether Kohli is currently at his absolute peak, but maintained that his level of batting remains extraordinary, regardless of the phase of his career.
