The T20 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the West Indies and the USA, is scheduled to take place from June 2 to 29. The BCCI secretary Jay Shah has already confirmed that Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian team. However, the report in Telegraph suggests that Kohli's inclusion is not guaranteed.
The selectors are reportedly concerned about India's failure to win an ICC trophy since the 2013 Champions Trophy. They believe that Kohli has not performed at his best in the T20 format. However, if Kohli has a stellar performance in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season, the selectors may reconsider their decision.
Kohli had taken a break from the five-Test series against England to be with his family for the arrival of his second child. The report mentions that the BCCI is treading cautiously on this matter, with few willing to get involved. The final decision will be made by the board's selection committee, led by former India pacer Ajit Agarkar.
According to the report, Agarkar has already had a discussion with Kohli about the need for him to make some adjustments to meet the demands of the team and the T20 format.
As the T20 World Cup draws closer, all eyes will be on the BCCI selectors and their decision regarding Kohli's inclusion in the squad. With India's hopes of winning an ICC trophy hanging in the balance, tough decisions may need to be made to give the team the best chance of success.
