United manager Louis Van Gaal adamant on bringing Real Madrid’s Angel Di Maria
Di Maria was instrumental for Madrid last season, often being the most capable of delivering penetrative passes.

United manager Louis Van Gaal is desperate for world-class additions and has reportedly told United chief executive Ed Woodward to do all he can to bring winger Di Maria to the club from Real Madrid. Daily Mail’s Ian Ladyman has the details of what is being offered to Di Maria: “It is understood United have told the Argentine that, with performance-based incentives, they will pay him around £200,000 a week. Over a five-year deal that would take United’s investment to £100m when a transfer fee of around £50m is included.”
Such a salary would mean that the 26-year-old Galactico would earn almost as much as new captain Wayne Rooney (who was offered a record deal last season) and star striker Robin van Persie. The Argentinian is talented enough to be a lethal presence on either flank and can even play through the middle if necessary. His crazy pace also allows him to chase down the ball, something of a weakness for United. Di Maria was instrumental for Madrid last season, often being the most capable of delivering penetrative passes, while he put on some versatile shows for Argentina.
Di Maria has also reportedly told his family of his surprise that the English club’s offer outstrips anything made by other suitors, including mega-rich Paris Saint-Germain of France.
PSG OUT OF THE RACE
PSG had announced two weeks ago that the negotiations with Madrid for Angel Di Maria had failed. While this was not taken at face value immediately, the French club's president said on Saturday that PSG will have no more signings this season. That should mean the end of any competition from PSG for the highly-rated playmaker.
PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi said: “We are in a good place. I am happy with the players we have. For me, it [the window] is over.” Al Khelaifi had earlier cited Di Maria as being too expensive for the club due to Financial Fair Play restrictions. It seems that Manchester United have already benefitted from the new rules intended to make the game for financially stable.
