The Indian Premier League (IPL) begins its 18th season on Saturday. Here's a look at some key highlights from the tournament's history.

Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings lead with five titles each. Mumbai won in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. Chennai claimed victories in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023. Kolkata Knight Riders have secured three titles, winning in 2012, 2014, and 2024.

Virat Kohli leads in most runs scored with 8,004. Shikhar Dhawan follows with 6,769, and Rohit Sharma with 6,628.


Chris Gayle holds the record for the highest individual score: “175 off 66 balls”.

Yuzvendra Chahal has taken the most wickets with 205. Piyush Chawla is next with 192, and Dwayne Bravo with 183.

MS Dhoni has played the most matches at 264. Dinesh Karthik and Rohit Sharma are tied for second with 257 matches each.

Kohli also leads in most catches with 114. Suresh Raina follows with 109.

The largest victory margin by runs is 146, achieved by Mumbai Indians against Delhi Daredevils.

The highest team total is 287/3, scored by Sunrisers Hyderabad against Royal Challengers Bangalore. The lowest team total is 49, scored by Royal Challengers Bangalore against Kolkata Knight Riders.
