Serena Williams teams up with Alcaraz in U.S. Open mixed doubles

Serena Williams will make a competitive return to the U.S. Open alongside defending men's champion Carlos ‌Alcaraz in ⁠the ⁠mixed doubles after the pair were handed a wildcard entry, tournament organisers said on Saturday.

It will be Williams' first ⁠competitive match ‌at the U.S. Open since ⁠2022. The American 23-times Grand Slam singles champion and six-times U.S. Open winner, won the mixed doubles title in 1998 with Max ‌Mirnyi.

World number one Aryna Sabalenka will ​partner Serbia's ​Novak ⁠Djokovic and Jessica Pegula will team up with fellow American ​Taylor Fritz in the mixed doubles.
