India T20 World Cup 2024 Squad: Rohit Sharma gets Hardik Pandya as deputy. Check who got in and who missed out

The BCCI named India's 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup set to be held in the US and Carribean, with Rishabh Pant making a comeback to international cricket.

Rohit Sharma will be leading the team while Hardik Pandya has been named the vice-captain.

Sanju Samson has been named in the squad as well. Samson is doing really well as a captain and batter this season for Rajasthan Royals, sitting at the sixth spot in the IPL 2024 run charts with 385 runs at an average of 77.00 and a strike rate of 161.08, with four half-centuries. His best score is 82*.

Pant makes a comeback to the Indian squad nearly two years after encountering a life threatening car accident.

Yuzvendra Chahal finds a mention in the 15-man squad even as KL Rahul misses out.

All teams had to submit their 15-player squad till May 1. The marquee event is all set to begin on June 1 in the USA and the West Indies.

Some reports suggest that the T20 World Cup, 2024 could be the final T20 international-level outing for veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Rohit and Virat both made their return to the T20I squad in January against Afghanistan, marking their comeback after their last appearance in the 2022 T20 WC semifinal loss to England in Australia. Following the defeat, Team India experimented with youngsters like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Tilak Varma, Rahul Tripathi, Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, etc., at the top of the batting order.

India currently features in the 'Group A' of the upcoming tournament. Other teams in the group include arch-rivals Pakistan, alongside Ireland, Canada and co-host USA.

India's first game will be played against Ireland on June 5 against Ireland at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York. Up next, India will face Pakistan on June 9 in what is one of the most anticipated matches of the T20 World Cup.
