Sundar Raman quits as Indian Premier League’s chief operating officer

The Indian Premier League’s chief operating officer Sundar Raman tendered his resignation to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday and the Board accepted it, ending months of speculation over Raman’s presence in the top management of the league especially after the new BCCI president Shashank Manohar took charge last month. "The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday accepted Mr. Sundar Raman's resignation from the post of Chief Operating Officer of the Indian Premier League (IPL)," a BCCI statement said.

Manohar was one of the few cricket administrators who had said earlier that Raman should have quit right after his name figured in the Mudgal Committee report on spot-fixing in the IPL. Raman’s resignation came a day after he met Manohar in Nagpur.

In December last year, when some parts of the report were made public, it was revealed that Raman knew a bookie who had contacted him eight times in just one season of the IPL. The committee also said that Raman’s role should be further investigated. Raman, however, said that he was unaware of this person’s betting activities.
